The Farm to School Grant - 2022 Farm to School Grantee

The Monett R-1 School District will be bringing local, less processed foods into school meals by improving the infrastructure of cafeterias to better support farm-to-school programming that brings local, better-quality foods to students. Monett R-1 also encourages the increased consumption of fresh fruits, vegetables, and local products through signage and promotional campaigns that bring attention to the importance of agriculture education.

"We are excited to be a recipient of one of the USDA Farm to School grants awarded nationally. The Monett R-1 School District will be working on expanding its MO Beef for MO Kids program to bring even more fresh local foods into school meals. We will be improving the infrastructure of our cafeterias to better support farm-to-school programming and products." - Alex Severs, Monett R-1 Schools Wellness Coordinator

In addition to the infrastructure to improve the cafeterias, various activities and partnerships will take place. The Food Service Department has begun the Taste Tests. The Taste Tests (pictured below) are new entrees featured quarterly in collaboration with MO Beef for MO Kids and GO CAPS.

The Farm to School grant helps empower students to make healthy food choices by providing high-quality local foods and nutrition education.
