Why We’re Exploring a 150-Day Academic Calendar

Monett Schools is exploring whether a different academic calendar could create new opportunities to support student learning, staff effectiveness, and the needs of our families and community.

The purpose of this exploration is not to simply reduce the number of days students attend school. Instead, the district is studying whether reorganizing the school year could allow us to use instructional time differently while maintaining a strong learning experience for students.

As part of this process, we are examining several areas, including:

• How a 150-day calendar could support student learning, intervention, and enrichment
• Whether additional time could be used to provide targeted support for students who need it
• How the calendar could affect teacher planning, professional learning, recruitment, and retention
• The impact on families, including childcare, transportation, meals, and family schedules
• How athletics, activities, SRTC, and other student programs would be affected
• Financial and operational considerations for the district
• Whether this type of calendar is ultimately a good fit for Monett Schools

The district is still gathering information, identifying challenges, and developing possible solutions. No decision has been made. The purpose of this exploration is to determine whether a 150-day academic calendar is a viable option for Monett Schools.
