A+ Scholarship Program

Purpose

 The A+ Schools program is a school-improvement initiative established by the Outstanding Schools Act of 1993. It is funded by the State of Missouri and is contingent on the State Legislature appropriations. Monett High School has been designated an A+ school since 1998. 

The primary goal of the A+ Schools Program is to ensure that all students who graduate from Missouri high schools are well equipped to pursue advanced education and employment.  It is designed to reduce drop out rates, raise academic expectations, provide career paths for all students, and work closely with businesses and higher education leaders to better prepare students for life after high school.  Graduates who have maintained A+ eligibility are able to receive scholarship funds for the cost of tuition to any participating Missouri public community college or vocational/technical school and certain private two-year vocational/technical schools. 

What is the A+ Scholarship Program? 

Graduates of Monett High School can qualify for a state-paid financial incentive to attend any public community college or career/technical school in Missouri through the A+ Scholarship Program. (See link for a list of eligible schools)

Monett School District is a designated  A+ School from the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.  With the A+ Scholarship Program, students have more opportunities to explore various career options and start preparing for future workplace experiences.

Whether students are planning to go directly into the workplace upon graduation or continuing their education at college or a vocational/technical school, all students can benefit from the A+ Scholarship Program.

A+ Requirements 

A student who qualifies according to the following criteria and continues an education at a Missouri public community college or vocational/technical school can be eligible for financial assistance for tuition and general fees subject to legislative appropriation: 

• Sign an A+ Agreement
• Attend a designated A+ public high school for at least two of four years
• Graduate from high school with an un-weighted Grade Point Average of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale
• Maintain at least a 95% attendance record for the four-year period
• Perform 50 hours of unpaid tutoring or mentoring for other students
• Maintain a record of good citizenship, including the avoidance of the unlawful use of drugs and alcohol
• Achieve a score of Proficient or Advanced on the Algebra I end-of-course (EOC) exam, or a higher level DESE approved EOC exam in the field of Mathematics, or a qualified Math ACT Score,  or a qualifying math subscore:

The financial incentive is available only after the student has made a good faith effort to first secure all available federal financial aid through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) that does not require repayment.

To be eligible students must:

1. Be a US citizen or permanent resident

2. Have a signed A+ agreement on file prior to high school graduation

3. Attend a designated A+ high school for 2 years prior to high school graduation.

4. Graduate from a designated A+ high school with a non-weighted cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale.

5. Graduate with a cumulative 95% ADA (Average Daily Attendance) record.

6. Perform and document fifty (50) hours of unpaid tutoring/mentoring approved by the Monett R-1 School District.

7. Maintain a record of good citizenship and avoid the unlawful use of drugs and alcohol (citizenship guidelines detailed on the back of agreement).

8. Score proficient or advanced on the Algebra 1 End Of Course Exam or a higher-level state exam (i.e. Algebra II EOC). 

9. Apply for non-payback scholarships by completing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) during the student’s senior year.

10. Register for selective service, if applicable.
