SKILLSUSA KICKOFF

On Friday, August 29th, marked the SkillsUSA kick-off meeting. The SkillsUSA theme this year is “SkillsUSA: Champions at Work, Empowered to Succeed. Brianna Vanderlaan aided in the SkillsUSA Kickoff, and has a big reputation with Missouri SkillsUSA.  Brianna is a SRTC alumni, local and state SkillsUSA Officer, and a 2018 graduate from Aurora High School. She shared her experiences and ways to excel in SkillsUSA with the 2020-2021 SRTC students.

Brianna spoke about what personal skills she has gained throughout her SkillsUSA journey. One skill she is most proud of is confidence, she went from being able to speak in front of 20 to 3,000 people because of her role in SkillsUSA.

Brianna asked the crowd, “ How does the SkillsUSA Framework empower you to succeed?”. She then included how the SkillsUSA framework was created with employers in mind and what skills are needed to be successful in the workforce. SkillsUSA helps students obtain new skills that can be used at future jobs.

Ms. Anessa Garner, SkillsUSA coordinator, encouraged all students to get involved and put their skills to work with SkillsUSA.
