The 2nd Annual Heavy Equipment Day at Scott Regional Technology Center was a tremendous success, giving students an immersive experience into the world of construction and heavy equipment operations.
Throughout the day, students learned from industry professionals who shared their expertise and enthusiasm for a career field that is vital and rapidly evolving. With many seasoned professionals nearing retirement, the demand for new talent in the construction industry continues to grow—making this event more important than ever.
Students gained insight into every phase of the construction process, from the initial groundwork to the finishing details. They explored modern technologies in dirt work demonstrated by Ozark Laser and DirtCalcs, and learned how advanced and high-tech today’s equipment has become. Thanks to Fabick Cat Mechanics, students saw firsthand how heavy equipment is maintained and transported, while discussions about obtaining a CDL provided valuable guidance for those interested in pursuing the field.
One of the highlights of the day was the opportunity for students to climb into and operate real machines—including dozers, skid steers, and trackhoes—allowing them to connect classroom learning with hands-on experience. North Arkansas College (NorthArk) was also on-site to share opportunities for earning a Technical Certificate in Heavy Equipment Operations.
This event offered students a complete picture of what it takes to build everything from football fields to new construction sites and roadways.
Scott Tech extends a sincere thank you to all the partners who made this event possible: Vaughn Companies, Ozark Laser, Fabick Cat, NorthArk, DirtCalcs, and Tents for All Events. Their partnership and support are helping inspire the next generation of skilled professionals in the construction industry.
