Taking a New Spin on Summer School, Culinary Arts, Construction Technology, Welding Technology, Precision Machining, For Incoming Freshmen, Summer Experience 2022, 1 Practical Art Credit

Incoming Freshmen Students (2022-2023) & Parents/Guardian,

The Scott Regional Technology Center (SRTC) is “Taking a New Spin on Summer School!” SRTC is now offering a summer school program focused on Culinary Arts, Construction Technology, Welding Technology, and Precision Machining (class descriptions below).

Students will have the opportunity to be part of four program areas to explore careers. Students will spend a week in one of the program areas and rotate each week to experience all four areas.

Freshmen students will receive a practical art credit. This requires students to attend all 20 days of summer school and cannot be absent for more than two days.

Career and Technical Education prepares students for career pathways in the global marketplace by offering experiential learning, post-secondary credits and industry certifications. This opportunity will allow students to explore SRTC before junior and senior year at Monett High School.

Students interested in the SRTC Summer Experience must complete the summer school enrollment form, linked HERE, and choose SRTC Summer Experience as the summer school course.

Class Descriptions

Culinary Arts

The week’s cuisine will be hamburgers from scratch, from buns to everything in between; including pickles, a tomato based sauce, and how to season the patties for grilling. Students will also have to prepare a side for their dish. In this class, they will have to work as a team but also work by themselves.

Construction Technology

Put your hands to work with Construction Technology! Learn to identify hand, power, and air tools used in the construction industry. During this course, students will construct a birdhouse from start to finish, and use their imagination to build a robot figurine.

Welding Technology

Start learning about the Welding Industry! Learn how to identify tools, and the uses of the different required tools to be a welder. Students will also gain exposure to the equipment in the shop and its uses. Students will also learn about the oxy-acetylene cutting process. Leave this class with more knowledge about tools, equipment and processes that welding requires and potential careers.

Precision Machining

Gain exposure to the art of manufacturing, from start to finish. Students will get to work in computer design, and read basic blueprints. This course will be an excellent introduction for students interested in STEM, engineering, drafting, or construction. Students will see the creation of manufacturing from the idea stage to the finished product.
