Monett R-1 Schools PK & K Screenings March 4 and April 15

Monett Families and Community,

The Monett Early Childhood Center (MECC) will begin scheduling appointments for preschool and kindergarten screenings on Tuesday, Feb. 20. We have two screening dates planned on Monday, March 4, and Monday, April 15, from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. A preschool and kindergarten screening aims to assess a child's developmental progress and identify potential areas of concern.

Screenings will take place in the cafeteria/commons area at the Monett Early Childhood Center (MECC). Parents will enter the building for the screening through the back door on 7th Street that leads into the cafeteria/commons area.

Three-year-olds are screened for specific developmental delays only. We do not have a general preschool program for this age group. However, three-year-olds may be eligible for early childhood special education services. Three-year-olds accepted into the early childhood special education program will not be included in the full-day Title program.

Age requirements for preschool and kindergarten:

  • Preschool: Must be age four before August 1

  • Kindergarten: Must be age five before August 1

The screening appointment is the first step and does not guarantee enrollment in the fall. You will be required to return in the summer to complete the enrollment process, including E-Registration through PowerSchool. In June, we will follow up with a letter to inform you whether your student is accepted into the preschool program. All kindergarten students within the age requirements are admitted into kindergarten.

Follow this link to read more about what to expect during the screening and how to support your student before the screening.

We encourage all parents with eligible children to take advantage of this opportunity. Not only will you receive a health screening for your child, but you will also gain access to a wealth of resources to support your family and child's development.

If you have any questions or want to schedule an appointment, please call the Monett Early Childhood Center at 417-354-2168, Monday - Friday, 9:00 am to 2:00 pm.
