Richard Mettlach

The Monett High School Cross Country Invitational will be renamed after Richard "Whitey" Mettlach. He was a teacher in the Monett School District for almost 30 years. He also coached the boys' and girls' cross country teams for 27 years. Mr. Mettlach passed away in February 2021. He was informed about the Monett Invitational Cross Country Meet renaming before his passing. Mr. Mettlach made a tremendous impact in Cross Country and those around him.

Monett is one of the largest-running programs hosting a meet in the state, with this year being our 42nd invitational. All former runners, colleagues, friends, family and the community  are invited to our home meet on September 14th at the South Park. We will be presenting a plaque to Richard Whitey Metlach's family at 3:45 pm, along with a foundation presentation.
